Jazz

Jazz is one of those musical genres that can be intimidating to listen to because it has a long history and jazz aficionados are somewhat elitist. So where do you start once you?ve heard a little bit of jazz and decide you like it? Why not start with smooth jazz music and broaden your musical horizons?

What is Smooth Jazz?

There are many styles of jazz as the music evolved from its early beginnings as music played in brothels; smooth jazz music is different from what traditionally might be termed jazz. Smooth jazz music can be called modern jazz as it originated somewhere in the mid to late 1970?s.

Some of the influences you can find in smooth jazz music are funk, pop music and R&B - all very contemporary types of music which perhaps characterizes smooth jazz music as a fusion of the old and new. Although smooth jazz music should not be confused with fusion jazz, the most popular instruments used in smooth jazz music are saxophones and guitars.

Easily Accessible

Smooth jazz music is possibly one of the most accessible forms of jazz music as it is widely played on radio stations. In the 1980?s smooth jazz was very popular on radio and there are now plenty of radio stations dedicated solely to this form of jazz. So there?s no shortage of places for you to hear this beautiful music, a problem you might face if you were into old school jazz.

The great thing about smooth jazz music is that it is not something only certain people will enjoy. Because of the many styles incorporated into smooth jazz, people who wouldn?t normally listen or enjoy jazz would probably find themselves enjoying smooth jazz music. Appreciating jazz might be associated with the older crowd, who are mature enough, but this isn?t the case with smooth jazz as everyone, regardless of age, listens to this music.

A Great Starting Point

Smooth jazz is a great way of ease into listening to jazz music in general, mainly because you would not think of smooth jazz as hard-core jazz. You?ve probably heard smooth jazz before but didn?t know it because it sounded too new to be jazz. Once you?ve listened to smooth jazz you can start to try other types of jazz that are closer to the original form. Who knows, sooner or later you might find yourself in the elitist category of jazz heads that might sniff at smooth jazz!

Out of all the jazz music, a favorite has to be jazz piano music; it is probably the easiest to follow and listen to by all types of individuals no matter what their musical preference. Jazz piano Music Jazz piano music requires different skills to play and listen alike; piano in itself is considered a classical instrument with powerful notes to reach one?s heart and soul; since jazz music is not written out in detail the way other classical music is, the individual pianist who is playing jazz piano music, needs an extensive knowledge of musical vocabulary such as chords, melodic material and basic jazz music knowledge. The piano typically is said to be able to be broken up in three main sections; the lower section being the bass or representing an acoustic bass player, the middle is the piano, more for chords and the melody and the high end of the piano is the horn section. The combination of the three sections is the most basic form of theory for the jazz piano music. The Love for Music One does not have to go into intensive study of jazz piano music in order to appreciate it; by listening to music itself one can develop an appreciation for it and basic knowledge. Music is known to bring positive attitude, thoughts and improvement in one?s mood almost instantly. How many times did you listen to a song and it took you right back in time to where you heard it for the first time, what you did and how was present there; music even brings us back smells and sights of a particular event with its every little detail. Music therapy is widely practiced on humans, animals and plants; it is a known fact that those who listen music have a better approach to problem or issue. It is also known that music brings hope with which one can face almost anything; even seriously diseased patients have had their pain and hurt alienated by music even for a little while at a time. People have found peace in music ? a place to recollect and relax one?s mind and soul. Jazz piano music is one such type of medicine for the soul that needs healing but also for those who just plain appreciate life and music; both piano and jazz by themselves are known to be soothing and romantic due to which one should not miss any change to miss the two and make some jazz piano music to enjoy everyday.

There are going to be times where you are not able to find a particular tune that you really like for free and in sheet music form.

For hard core fans of the jazz genre, sometimes just listening to the music from the internet or on the radio is not enough to satisfy what can be a somewhat creative market. It is always great to listen to the music but what are the benefits of watching jazz music videos? This is a simple question and all jazz fans will appreciate listening to the music but in terms of this relaxing style, many like to watch their favourite artists perform just for them. It gives people the feeling of watching a private concert and can deepen the love for the music. Watch Videos From Your IPOD If you are on vacation or a business trip then you may want a bit of serenity and watch one of your favourite jazz music videos. Some people are very technologically minded and if you have purchased an IPOD at some point then you could settle down and watch one of many jazz music videos because this technology allows imported music and videos to be downloaded. Buying Jazz Music Videos Like with buying cd?s, there are many places where you can purchase excellent jazz music videos for a good price and it is just a case of searching thoroughly for some of your preferred artists. If you refer to online sites such as rhapsody.com you can watch full-length music videos for free, you don?t always have to make a purchase to enjoy good quality clips of some of the best jazz artists in the world. You may prefer to purchase your videos and this means that you could watch the magic over and over again, websites such as amazon.com and activemusician.com can offer a wide choice of jazz music videos and you will have a choice of more established artists and even newcomers. The variety is endless so you will never be stuck for choice. Searching For the Best Deal The biggest benefit of purchasing any jazz music videos off the Internet is that you could be potentially saving a few dollars off the shelf price because due to the large number of internet based companies, being competitive is the key. Never buy from the first place you see your video because it is almost guaranteed, there will be one place or another that will sell the same video for a cheaper price, it pays to wait and apart from landing a copy of your favourite artist, you have a few more dollars to spend elsewhere.

Downloading Jazz Music

As you are no doubt aware, downloading music for free ? no matter what genre is a criminal offence and could result in prosecution but there are many companies now offering the chance to buy jazz music cd?s legally and without the quality being compromised.

All you need to do is to search the virtual libraries of different jazz cd?s (this can sometimes amount to over 300 different albums) and upon finding a suitable song / songs, you can either make a payment from a PAYPAL account or just register a credit or debit card and pay for songs in this way.

Anyone who likes music that isn?t ?mainstream? or popular at the moment will tell you how hard it is to enjoy this type of music. Local music stores have no stock, there is limited availability at most chains, and you often have to pay more money to enjoy your favorite music. What is even more frustrating is when you?re trying to play the music on your own and can?t get your hands on any sheet music ? either because it is not available or you just can?t afford it. You are not alone in your frustrations. Here are some answers: Convenience at a Click Finding the kind of sheet music you want at a music store can be extremely time-consuming and you might often walk away with nothing despite hours of searching. With free jazz sheet music, a lot of the inconvenience that you are faced with when looking for sheet music is solved. You don?t have to buy a whole book when all you want is just one song, and the icing on the cake is that it?s free. What makes it even better is that you can shop for free jazz sheet music at home with your feet propped up without the worry of parking or the bother of crowds, which makes it even cheaper as you save on gas. Great for the Casual Player Let?s face it, with all the expenses we have, spending money on yet another hobby sometimes feels like way too much. The feeling of guilt when you splurge on some sheet music can take away all the fun of playing. When you?re just an amateur who plays for fun, free jazz sheet music is a great alternative to actually buying whole books of jazz songs. There?s nothing worse than the feeling that you?ve been ripped off or that you have wasted money. Buying sheet music can be a little dicey as it?s often cheaper to buy books rather than single song sheets. What happens when you open your new book and find that you only like two or three out of twenty songs or that you can only play one or two songs out of fifty? Free jazz sheet music will give you a clear idea of what level you are at and what type of jazz you like. If you eventually want to spend more but are waiting till you get better, getting some free jazz sheet music is an ideal way to start. Once you?ve been playing for a while you can decide how much is really worth spending on your new hobby.

Jazz

Listening to jazz music has always been one of the most enjoyable pastimes for many people. The innovations of the sounds, either through classical jazz or the avant garde jazz music, innovations were always the name of the game when it came to jazz music.

In fact, how one listens to jazz music has always been on the forefront of technology for the times. Today is no different; one of the best ways to gain listening pleasure is to take advantage of one the most cutting edge technology. That?s right - jazz has entered the Internet age in the form of jazz music downloads.

Jazz music downloads are simply next in line as one of the great jazz innovations. Some of the first American music recorded on records was that of jazz music and the same occurred when tapes and compact discs came on the scene. Jazz music downloads are no different.

Where can I Download?

Many new jazz musicians use personal web pages to introduce their music to the public and encourage sales of their records. Jazz music downloads can come in many forms that are easily played on different media including mp3s, wave media, and downloads to a CD burner to listen to at your pleasure.

Of course, there might be a small fee for the jazz music download, but its well worth it if you choose to listen to some great music while still in your pajamas. Always make sure the way you pay for your music is safe. Check for secure servers to protect yourself from identity theft.

There are a number of music websites that allow you to get just about every style of jazz music that you want, and offer unlimited downloads for a monthly fee. Of course, you can feel good about getting jazz music downloads in this fashion, since a portion of the monthly fee will go to the artists that create the new sound of jazz.

Caution?

One has to be careful though, when finding jazz music downloads on the internet. There are countless places out there that offer to share different jazz pieces from different fans. Although this might seem like a great way to share a love of jazz music, these places do not give a royalty to the artists that work so hard at producing the fine music that you listen to in the comfort of your home.

Many people argue that there is nothing better in life than going to a live jazz concert. However, in an age when many people are finding themselves in financial difficulty, going to a jazz concert is considered a luxury and therefore jazz lovers in precarious financial situations will find that listening to a jazz music radio station is a worthwhile option. Expensive Tickets versus a Quiet Afternoon with a Jazz Music Radio Station Jazz enthusiasts consider several U.S. jazz concerts to be worth going to, no matter what the price. However if a person in debt wants to go to the famous Newport jazz Festival in Newport, Rhode Island, one needs not only patience, but a ready flow of credit or cash. After much frustration trying to get the much-prized tickets, one might find that listening to a jazz music radio station is a better option. The Newport Jazz Festival is considered by many jazz aficionados to be the best annual music festival in the country. Tickets sell out almost as soon as they go on sale with decent seats going more than a hundred dollars each. If one gets shut out of the initial ticket-selling process and chooses to go through a company that sells the tickets to the sold out event, they are looking at an additional service fee of another few hundred dollars. And don?t forget to factor in the cost of transportation and hotel reservations for those traveling from far away to the event. Indeed, listening to a jazz music radio station is a hassle-free alternative. There are several ways to go about finding a good jazz music radio station and you may need to look no further than your car stereo. FM radio has many types of jazz music to listen to, and after a bit of searching one will easily find a jazz music radio station that matches their preferences. One could also invest in buying the clear-reception Sirius Satellite radio subscription/system, which in total would cost about the same as one good ticket to the Newport Jazz Festival. This would save money in the long-run rather than going to the festival every year. Another popular alternative is to listen to an online jazz music radio station such as AOL Radio because broadband users will get good reception for free. For those that shun all the alternatives, and prefer to always attend live jazz events, that is their (expensive) choice.

Jazz

Music is an essence of life; I have believed this all my life. Music can make any situation look better, no matter how bad it is; after all music is a part of all ceremonies from wedding to funerals.

Jazz Music

Jazz music is one of those benefic tunes that will get right under your skin as soon as you play it; while in the car try to listen to jazz music radio and see how it will improve your mood making from difficult traffic seem a real pleasure ? okay, I will not go that far but, it will definitely help deal with traffic. Music at times may be used as a therapy mode for those with serious (or not so serious) diseases; it has been proved to heal and improve some of the patient?s pain and suffering. I have personally encountered many who listen to jazz music radio just for that reason.

Listening to jazz music radio is great because you turn it on and don?t have to think of changing the tape or replaying it; not having any choice of which jazz tune to hear next is good in a way too as you will enjoy the different tunes as they are played. I know when I listen to a CD I know there are some tunes that I like better then the other?s, I skip right through the CD to those; well on jazz music radio you just have to sit back and listen and they will do the picking of the tunes.

Radio ? Is It a Dying Trend?

The fact is not many of us listen to the radio anymore and that is a great shame as the radio enriches our lives not only with music but also with news and other important information. What I enjoy most about radio is that I don?t have to get stuck to it like with the TV; I can turn it on and do my work as usual and still enjoy it. The fact that I don?t have to chance channels or the CD in it in order for it to function is great.

I enjoy many channels of music but my favorite is jazz music radio; it is enjoyable at any time of the day but especially when I drive home from work. I can literarily feel the stress melting away from the whole day?s work. It helps me not only to let go of any stress issues that I am dealing with that day but also improves my mood to face other issues I may have to face at home.

I listen to jazz music radio at home while cooking or taking my late evening bath; it is so convenient that I forget it is on most times falling asleep with it. Making music part of your life will help you greatly to de-stress on the go as our busy routines does not allow us most times to stop and deal in depth with most of our day to day issues. Enjoy jazz music radio or any other music radio channel that fits your style and liking.

For jazz enthusiasts, there are usually two prevalent reasons why they would want to purchase a jazz music DVD. The first reason is that the Newport jazz Festival has just ended, and they are looking for something to visually recapture the nostalgia of having been there. The second reason is that they want to expand both their visual and mental knowledge of jazz and indeed, purchasing a jazz music DVD is an excellent way to cherish the jazz experience. The Jazz Music DVD as a Concert Experience For those looking to buy a jazz music DVD as a method of enjoying a jazz concert from the comfort of their home, there are several options. One needs to only to go to a bookstore or a music store and find so many choices that even the most dedicated jazz fan can be daunted. However, there is one jazz music DVD that every fan should own. Wynton Marsalis has long been considered one of the best and most popular jazz artists and composers of modern American society. He is a jazz trumpeter, and comes from a family of jazz musicians. You can either spend a lot of money to see him perform live (if you can even get tickets, since they usually sell out quite quickly) or yiy can buy a jazz music DVD for a considerably lower price, with an excellent view of the stage. For this purpose, one should buy ?Wynton Marsalis: Blues and Swing,? which is a concert that incorporates two of the most important elements of jazz into one hour and twenty minutes of a unique jazz experience. The Jazz Music DVD as an Informational Experience Some jazz fans want to buy a jazz music DVD not for the concert experience, but for the informational experience because they love the music, but love the history behind the music even more. For this purpose, it is ideal to not get just one jazz music DVD, but a collection of them in a documentary set. When one well-versed in the art of documentary thinks of a consummate documentary filmmaker, one automatically thinks of the Ken Burns. Thus, it is a lucky thing for jazz fans that Ken Burns documentary, ?jazz: A Film by Ken Burns,? is available for purchase. After all, a ten-part documentary on the history of jazz music is a must-have for the dedicated jazz fan?s personal collection. Whether it is for entertainment or for information, every jazz fan should have at least one jazz music DVD in the personal collection. Although a jazz fan may have a tower of music CDs, jazz is meant to be experienced through both visual and auditory means. Thus, having a jazz music DVD or documentary in one?s personal collection can only heighten the ultimate music experience that is jazz.

Jazz

Jazz guitar sheet music can be likened to a map that all travelers use to arrive at the final destination. The importance of jazz guitar sheet music isn?t that all travelers arrive at the same destination but that they all travel the same route in reaching the destination. Jazz guitar sheet music reflects the composer?s composition by reflecting the musical notation, rhythms and rests. Generally all musicians, with the exception of the soloist, follow sheet music that reflects their particular musical discipline.

The jazz guitar is a stringed instrument that plays chords as well as melodies. Guitars generally accompany the melody instruments such as trumpets, saxophones and trombones. The resulting blend of the guitar and melody instruments creates the harmony of the musical piece.

Jazz is distinguished from other musical genres in that it provides opportunities for improvisation. However, even in jazz music, sheet music is necessary to indicate melodies, chord changes and arrangements.

Simultaneity

A melody within the composition is the refrain that generally is repeated throughout the entire song. This series of notes threads its way through the entire musical composition and generally lingers in the hearer?s mind. Simultaneity simply means that the chords are played at the same time that the melody is played rather than in succession. For the jazz guitarist, jazz guitar sheet music provides chord progressions or simultaneity.

Chords

Chords appear on jazz guitar sheet music and usually consist of two or more musical notes. A progression of chords coupled with the melody creates harmony. The use of chords adds quality to the harmony. Harmony is a sequence of chords, or group of tones that sound concurrently. Often harmonizing notes are below the melody on the musical staff, but this is not always the case. Bold and deliberate chords often translate into more powerful harmonies.

In jazz, harmony is often the groundwork of a presentation. The theme generally occurs at the beginning and end of the composition. In jazz guitar sheet music the chords that accompany the melody may be the only constant musical written.

Arrangements

In music, an arrangement is defined as a reworking of the musical composition that takes in account what instruments or voices are available to those performing. Therefore, in selecting jazz guitar sheet music it is important to realize the arrangement available and the necessary number of performers required for the music selected.

Jazz Music took birth in the Southern United Sates in the 1880?s, primarily from vocalizations of African plantation workers in the form of sorrow songs, shouts during fieldwork, hymns, and spiritual and religious folk songs of predominantly African harmonic, rhythmic, and melodic elements. The exact birthplace of jazz music is traced to New Orleans, the largest city of Louisiana where it flourished until the First World War. The origin of the word jazz is not very clear and guesswork relates it to several sources including the name of some particular performer, or an African word that could not be used respectably until a century ago since it referred to sexual activity. Gradually, its meaning was modified to any vigorous, enthusiastic activity. Jazz Music History through Time Jazz music history can be traced back to as far as the eighteenth century when slaves were brought from Africa to work on plantations, fields, railroads, and seaport docks. Singing while working was a means to pass time, driving the mind away from their plight, and it took the shape of call-and-response. A song-leader would call a line and the rest would respond in chanting. Spirituals were also sung by the slaves, carrying elements of both religious belief and the desire for freedom. Ragtime As America turned into the land of opportunity in the nineteenth century, Europeans sought their fortune here, bringing along a variety of musical traditions e.g. Irish, German, and French. Scott Joplin, the African-American composer, blended these European compositional styles with the rhythm and melody of black communities. The result was syncopation of a particular style of popular music, primarily meant for the piano, and called ragging. Ragtime was essentially a written form of music and in the early 1900?s New Orleans performers used the term ragtime instead of jazz. Swing The late 1920?s are remembered in jazz music history for another style of popular music, called Swing, which became a national craze. It originated in Kansas City and Harlem in the late 1920?s. By virtue of its highly vigorous beat, swing moved people to dance on floor every night and the mania kept its hold well into the 1930?s and 1940?s. Bop Bop developed around the mid 1940?s as a form of music characterized by flatted fifth, a more developed rhythmic structure, and with greater focus on harmony than melody. Major influences in bop were to later become the foundation of the modern jazz. Lester Young had obviously a great influence on the harmonic and rhythmic style of bop. Progressive Jazz Progressive (or Cool) jazz came in the jazz music history in the late 1940?s and early 1950?s primarily from the West coast. Progressive jazz was characterized by intense yet ironically relaxed tonal seniorities. The melody was less convoluted than in bop. Later Trends Jazz music history took a new turn with the popularity of television as a source of entertainment in America in the 1950?s. Interest in concert music for entertainment began to dwindle and dance halls began to close In the 1960?s, rock ?n roll was fused with jazz and this became a most popular connection in the jazz music history so as to march ahead right to the end of 1970s. The jazz of the 1980?s was less form bending and rather revivalist, with musicians reluctant to follow trends and accept labels. In the early 1990?s, a new style acid jazz evolved by blending of traditional jazz, soul, and funk with Latin and hip-hop rhythms. Smooth jazz and retro jazz are other products of the 90?s.

Jazz

Jazz music has the kind of power to touch one?s soul; it?s deep and powerful yet soothing and relaxing.

The Origin of Jazz Music

The roots of jazz music lay in the combination of American African tradition. The origin of jazz music is from the African American communities near the beginning of 20th century; gaining its international popularity around 1920?s. Jazz music has many different styles; even today it never stopped evolving bringing along a different angle to its impressive notes. However, the soul of jazz music is blues.

The word ?jazz? is said to originate from American slang and is supposed to have been ?jass? and that was a rude sexual slang related to the jasmine perfume worn by the urban prostitutes. Today if you look up jazz as a word in the dictionary it will translate to ? animation; nonsense; enthusiasm and miscellaneous.

The origin of jazz music is from simple musicians who taught themselves how to play music. Jazz music is said to have started with the black slaves in the cotton fields and continued after work in the bars to entertain themselves. They were mostly sad songs of grief and pain; even today jazz music inspires passion and pain.

New Orleans and the Origin of Jazz Music

New Orleans, Louisiana was the first city to commonly name ?jass? music ? jazz; the city had a long history of being the regional music center with many people from different nations such as Africa, Europe and Latin America who contributed to New Orleans rich musical heritage.

The known New Orleans musicians say that one of the main reasons in the development of jazz is due to the well known trumpeter, Buddy Bolden and the members of his band. It is said that he was the first to take jazz to the blues styles that we are used to today. In the early 20th century anyone visiting New Orleans remarked the distinguished band and the jazz notes not heard anywhere else. It soon caught on nationwide and thereafter internationally.

The Love of Jazz Music

The origin of jazz music is inevitability within everyone?s heart as we hear it for the first time; we all find our style of jazz music that we enjoy and turn to when happy or sad.
One cannot help but fall in love with this soothing music that feeds the soul.

Music is an essence of life; I have believed this all my life. Music can make any situation look better, no matter how bad it is; after all music is a part of all ceremonies from wedding to funerals. Jazz Music Jazz music is one of those benefic tunes that will get right under your skin as soon as you play it; while in the car try to listen to jazz music radio and see how it will improve your mood making from difficult traffic seem a real pleasure ? okay, I will not go that far but, it will definitely help deal with traffic.

Easily Accessible Smooth jazz music is possibly one of the most accessible forms of jazz music as it is widely played on radio stations. A Great Starting Point Smooth jazz is a great way of ease into listening to jazz music in general, mainly because you would not think of smooth jazz as hard-core jazz.
